Festival of the Arts this weekend in Edom Edom will host its sixth annual Festival of the Arts starting Saturday, October 20. The free festival will continue into Sunday, October 21, and will take place in the grassy meadow area in the center of Edom, behind the parking lot of The Shed CafØ. Mary Wilhite, festival director, said there had been an arts festival in Edom for 25 years. "Eight to 10 years ago it moved to Tyler, and the people here wanted a festival back in town," Wilhite said. Proudly displayed at the festival will be juried art works including bronze and other metal sculptures, oil and watercolor paintings, mixed media artworks, turned wood vessels, handmade wood furniture, fine jewelry, pottery, photography, hand-woven fabrics, and blacksmith's art, a press release stated. Much of the artwork will be showcased along with demonstrations throughout the festival. "I think it's one of the best art festivals in the state," Wilhite said. In addition to the many artists' booths, there will be food to purchase, live music entertainment starring local and regional performers and a free kids' art area. Kids will be able to paint their own work for display next year, or can donate money to take home their artwork. "The festival is dog-friendly if the dog is on a leash," Wilhite said. Edom is situated between Canton and Tyler, and the festival will last from 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday, and 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
