Golden Girls' car show raises $500 for Chicago trip
By Nathan Straus News Reporter

The Brownsboro High School Golden Girls drill team broke from their average routine to host a car show Saturday, September 15. The Gold Rush Car Show drove on from 9 am to 2 pm and ended with almost a dozen prizes being handed out.

Maggie Debenport, Golden Girl parent and director for 13 years said the day was a great amount of entertainment for her.

"There were 31 cars there, and the range was really good," Debenport said.

Vehicles from the 1930s and earlier were pitted against more recent models in the car show, and the Golden Girls were tasked with handing out an award of their own: the Golden Girls Choice award.

"They got to pick their favorite car and vote on it," Debenport said.

Throughout the day the girls worked the show by greeting people, Debenport said, performing their routines and handing out prizes.

The car show was a Golden Girl fundraising attempt. During the day, the girls raised $500 for a possible trip to Chicago, Ill. to perform and see the sights, Debenport said.

The trip's particulars are still under construction at the time of this writing.

All of the recipients of the 11 awards were given plaques. The winners are:

Best Early Car - 1930 Ford Best Late Car - 1962 Corvette - Bill Bassett of Athens
