Lake Palestine U.M.C. The church had a time of great fellowship and fun on Sunday night when it hosted a Trunk or Treat for the community. Church members decorated their cars and trucks and then circled in the parking lot. Then trick-ortreaters came by to get candy from each car. There were a lot of great decorations and costumes, and it seemed like everyone had a wonderful time. Milton Decker and the youth had the idea to put it on. We were sorry to hear that Vera Rhodes' father, Mr. Digby, passed away this past weekend. She has been in West Texas at his side for a while. The family asks that en lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Lake Palestine UMC or the charity of your choice. Donna Franko is back from her travels and is busy getting a group together to make some more Chrismon ornaments for the Advent and Christmas seasons that are fast approaching. She has been doing some online research for patterns. With all the talented ladies in the church, there ought to be plenty of people to help her out. Congratulations to Diana Hicks and Frank Guerin who have both started new jobs recently. Life has suddenly gotten very busy for them. Several church members have been sick the past two weeks. Mary Chudleigh has been very ill, but has managed to come back to the Chandler Nursing Center. From there she is making arrangements to move to Arkansas to be near her children. Bob Fisher had to go to the emergency room, but he is doing much better now and is up and working again. Brandy Blakeney also had to go to the emergency room last Sunday. We hope she is well recovered by now. Kaethe Griffin re-injured her foot last week. Now she has to wear that therapy boot for a while longer. That's okay, because Lynn Davis is also wearing one as she injured her foot, too. She is looking forward to having Jeff home again soon. He was in an accident out in California, and is now well enough to make it back home. We were also shocked to hear that Barbara Reveire had to have surgery on her heart last week. She is now recuperating in the hospital. We're hoping she comes home soon. We hear that both Dorothy and Herbert Botts will be undergoing surgery in the near future. It was great to see Everett Kuykendall back in church on Sunday. He looked very good. Since it is now November, it is time to put the churchwide Thanksgiving dinner on the calendar. It has been scheduled for November 17th, a Saturday. That meal will be eaten after Thanksgiving meals have been delivered to shut-ins, and others who might need a home-cooked meal for the holidays. In case anyone missed this column last week, that's because Barb Cade and Debbie Morris were in Scotland and England for a week. They stayed in Glasgow where Barb is doing course work at the University of Glasgow. They got to see Edinburgh, too and in London, they saw Buckingham Palace and Number 10 Downing St., among other things. Today is the deadline for any articles for the church newsletter. They should be sent to Rebecca Prather. There have been a lot of birthdays at the end of this past month. Those who turned another year older were Michael Harmon, Gayle Varnell, John Morris, Ian Sanders and Brandy Blakeney. Happy birthday to all of them. |
