Highlighting the Brownsboro Junior Varsity's win over Canton was the play of Jon Jon Thompson. He totaled 307 yards of offense while scoring five times.
Time is running out to see one of the best football teams that Brownsboro has to offer this season.

The Brownsboro Junior Varsity team comprised of freshmen, sophomores and a few juniors has dominated teams this season on their way to a 6- 1-1 record.

Playing on Thursday nights the JV team has two games left this season, one tonight in Bullard before they end the season as likely district champs at home against Athens.

Last week the Bears defeated Canton 40-24 on the new turf field at Norris Birdwell Stadium in Canton.

Brownsboro recorded season highs in both total yards of offense (504) and passing yards (342).

Jon Jon Thompson scored five of the Bears six touchdowns in the win while rushing for 83 yards. On the season Thompson has rushed for 551 yards while missing one game as he was called up to the varsity team.

It was not Thompson's running from the backfield that carried the Bears to the victory but his ability to run after the catch.

Thompson caught just seven passes from freshman quarterback Ryan Owens for a total of 224 yards, an average of 32 yards per catch.

Owens completed 17 of 30 pass attempts for 342 yards in the game throwing four touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 55 yards on seven carries.

Connecting with five different receivers Owens set the bar for Bear quarterbacks this season with the most passing yards in one game.

With 7:39 left in the opening quarter the Eagles put points on the board first with a 26 yard field goal. Owens connected with Thompson with 3:14 left in the quarter to give the Bears a 6-3 lead.

Canton answered right back retaking the lead on a five yard run with :12 left in the first quarter.

Trailing 10-6 the Bears drove 98 yards to score the go ahead touchdown with 6:50 left in the first half on a 21-yard pass from Owens to Thompson.

Still fighting, the Eagles scored on their sixth play of the ensuing drive to lead 16-12 after the missed two point conversion.

Facing a fourth down and long Ryan Owens connected with James Cofer for a 23 yard touchdown to put the Bears in the drivers seat for good with 2:02 left to play in the second quarter.

Cofer caught three Owens passes on the night for 33 yards.

Receiving possession of the ball to start the second half with a 18-16 lead the Bears drove 75 yards to score once more. Thompson crossed the goal line for the Bears on a two yard run before converting the two point conversion to give the Bears a 26-16 lead.

Thompson scored again on a five yard run putting the Bears ahead 34-16 with 7:19 left to play in the game.

Brownsboro's final touchdown came on what is becoming their trademark trick play.

Owens dropped back to pass on fourth and twenty and hit Austin Adair on the outside. Adair caught the ball and pitched it to Thompson who dashed 30 yards for the score.

Leading 40-24 The Bears' Ryan Cawthon ended the Eagles hope of one more score as he intercepted a pass.

Brownsboro rushed for 162 yards on 29 attempts against the Eagles. Adair caught four passes for 48 yards while Bret Ralson pulled in two passes for 22 yards.
