Chander's CodeRED shows low numbers CodeRED, the high-speed telephone emergency notification system Chandler has contracted with, ran a test Wednesday, October 31. The results were not good; less than half of the numbers expected to be reached by the city was actually contacted. Jim Moffeit, city administrator, said the problem was largely due to people not inputting their numbers into the CodeRED system. + "Only 597 numbers were contacted. We should have been reaching between 1,200 and 1,400," Moffeit said. "We did not contact as many as we expected to." For those who live within Chandler's city limits and didn't receive the CodeRED phone call at 3 pm October 31, numbers can be entered into the system from www.chandlertx.com. Moffeit said signing up is easy, and only requires people to click on the CodeRED symbol at the upper right hand corner of the screen. Both cell and home phone numbers can be added from there. "It takes one business day for the forms to be added to the system," Moffeit said. The city of Chandler will run another test Tuesday, November 13 as close to noon as possible, Moffeit said. The test will come the same day as the Chandler city council meeting. If the call reaches the number the system is trying to send it to, but the occupant isn't available, CodeRED will leave a message. Moffeit said the caller identification number will be 999-911-9999. "We want to get people into our system, " Moffeit said. |
