Following the crushing loss last Friday against Bullard the Bears playoff hopes for the 2007 football season are still alive.
As players, fans and others left Bear stadium last Friday night there was a sense of sorrow and defeat in the air as Bullard rallied to defeat the Bears 15-14 on a late field goal.
Just three days later there is new hope in Bear Country as Brownsboro gets one more chance at earning a playoff berth.
If the Bears defeat Athens this Friday night in Athens, Chapel Hill defeats Van and Bullard beats Canton in Bullard the Bears will earn the third seed in District 14-AAA and a playoff berth.
Chapel Hill, 3-1, is yet to be a lock to earn the District title if they fall to Van and could possibly miss the playoffs all together.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the craziness of District 14-AAA.

Before district play began this season the coaches from each school met together and decided to base playoff berths off the head to head matchups rather than a point system.
If the above winning scenario happens the Bears, Eagles, Vandals and Hornets will all finish district play with a 2-3 record. Chapel Hill would be district champs with a 4-1 record and Bullard would earn the second seed with a 3-2 record.
Then the four teams mentioned above that had the same record would be broken down into head-to-head match-ups.
Brownsboro defeated Canton and Athens(?) while losing to Van. Canton defeated Van and Athens but lost to the Bears giving the Bears the advantage.

The system is crazy, but all that really matters is that the Bears have a playoff chance.
Brownsboro (5-4,1-3) will look to take care of business Friday in Athens (4-5,2-2) at 7:30pm at Bruce Field.
