St. Boniface Catholic
by Sue Beams

On the Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time members of St. Boniface recognized our veterans with the reading of the Proclamation by President Bush. In his message, our President recognized these extraordinary Americans for their service and sacrifice and called upon the nation to show gratitude and respect to the men and women in the Armed Services.

In his homily, Fr. Jesse spoke of the offense taken by the Pharisees to the teachings of Jesus. They tried to trap Him. Jesus was beckoned to try to please both the Sadducees and the Pharisees in order to be accepted. He wanted more than to simply be accepted. His message of the life given by our Heavenly Father goes beyond this earth and beyond the grave. Death is conquered by the Resurrection. Jesus reveals the love and grace of the Father. We are united with Jesus through Baptism and therefore need not fear death! God is the author and sustainer of all life. Our call is to be faithful to Him as we anticipate the joys and rewards of eternal life.

The Mass ended with "America" sung by the congregation in honor of our veterans.

On Sunday afternoon a great feast was laid out and members of the church along with families and guests ate their fill! The church provided the turkeys (prepared by great volunteer cooks!) with those attending providing side dishes.

We recognized Fr. Jesse's birthday with "Happy Birthday " sung in both English and Spanish! We wish him the blessings of the Lord on his birthday! Thank you to everyone who made this Thanksgiving meal a huge success.

The months of November and December will be crazy busy at St. Boniface. Parishioners are urged to take home the weekly bulletin, check the bulletin board in the community room and listen for announcements to keep abreast of the happenings! A calendar of events is in the works, so be on the lookout for that, too.

Congratulations and best wishes to all those who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. We pray for the sick and suffering to find comfort in the arms of the Lord. May the Lord shine His Perpetual Light on those who have gone to their eternal rest. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the Joe Hoffman family in the loss of his brother, Eddie.

It is our continued, earnest prayer that the men and women of the armed services will be kept safe under the wings of protection of God, the Father, and come home to us soon!

May God bless you all.
