BJHS ends football season on a high note In what the coaches called the most exciting game of the season the 8th grade "A" Bears defeated the Athens Hornets 16-14 last Thursday at Bruce Field in Athens. Brownsboro got on the board early and took a 16-0 lead into the half. Athens rallied back in the second half of play and ignited both the Brownsboro sideline and crowd. After cutting the Bear lead to 16-14 the Hornets lined up to tie the game on a two point conversion. Bear defenders Willie Miller and Cheston Becknal stopped the Hornet conversion and kept the Bears lead safe. Keuntis Thompson finished his junior high football career with one of his best games as he rushed for more than 200 yards, but it was the Bear offensive line that carried the team to a 6-3 record and the season ending win. Throughout the entire 2007 season the Bear O-line played very well providing huge holes for the Bear running backs to run through and protecting quarterback Cody Strickland. D'Zavion Moss and Strickland both had interceptions on defense for the Bears in the win over Athens. The Bears finished 4-1 in district play. Finishing third in district was the 8th grade "B" team as they lost to Athens 18-14. Scoring for the Bears was Lance Booth and Cole Cooper, Cooper also scored the two point conversion. The entire defensive unit played well leading the Bears to a 5- 3-1 record on the season and a district record of 3-2. In 7th grade the "A" team lost to Athens 30-6 while the "B" team won 14-6. Scoring for the "A" team was Taylor Beall on a pass from Shelby Rogers. Tim Watters led the team in rushing. In the "B" game Logan Caldwell and Seth Middelton scored the Bear touchdowns. Middleton also scored the two point conversion. The "B" team finished second in district play with a 3-2 record. |
