Bearettes open up 07-08 basketball season

Tipping off the 2007-08 basketball season all three Bearette basketball teams fell to Mount Pleasant last Saturday in Brownsboro.

The Freshman team fell 35- 17 as Chelsea Holcomb led the team in scoring with six points.

In Junior Varsity action the Bearettes lost 46-23. Caitlyn Collins and Chelsea Chambers each scored five points while Chelsea Wilson nailed a three point shot.

Playing against the #17 ranked Class 4A Mount Pleasant the Varsity Bearettes lost by the score of 60-49.

The team battled back and forth in the first half with the Bearettes trailing 32-27 at the half. Brownsboro rallied in the third period cutting the lead to 41-40 entering the final The Brownsboro JV will period of play. With four minutes to play in the game the Bearettes still were within one before Mount Pleasant ran away with the win.

Two Bearettes scored in double figures in the season opening loss. Chelsea Chimney led the team with 18 points while Bianca Mosley added 11 points.

Brownsboro played host to Eustace on Tuesday night and will play this Friday night in Kerens.

Friday's game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but both coaches decided to move the game to Friday night. The freshmen tip off at 5:30pm followed by the varsity. participate in the Lady Bulldogs JV Tournament in Eustace beginning today while the title game will be played at 4:30pm on Saturday.

Brownsboro's first game will be at 11:30am Thursday against Kemp. If the Bearettes win they will play on Friday at 4:30pm. Another win would propel the Bearettes to play Saturday at 12:45 a win there would earn them a chance at the tournament title.

If Brownsboro loses to Kemp they will play Friday at 10:15am. There are a total of 16 Junior Varsity teams in the tournament.

Brownsboro's next home game is against Ennis on Tuesday, November 20. The girls are not scheduled to play during the Thanksgiving break.

Overall all three BHS teams are 0-1 on the young season.

Coach Griffin is 17 wins away from 800 on his career as of Monday, November 12.
