Lake Palestine U.M.C. Since this is Thanksgiving week, we naturally have a lot of church members who are going to be traveling. The Kisers said they are going to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, Lillian Stegall will be heading to Vicksburg, Mississippi to be with her family, Rich and Donna Franko are going to Florida and Rev. Richard and Rebecca Prather are heading up to Oklahoma for a short and restful vacation before returning home to celebrate Thanksgiving with their daughter, Jessica, who is coming in from Houston. Of course, one of the biggest surprises is that word has it that Bernard and Linda Massey will be staying home this Thursday. We all just knew they would be going someplace. Also celebrating at home will be John and Debbie Morris and Vicki Patton and Ken and Barb Cade. We were sorry to hear that John Reveire had to go back to the hospital this weekend. Fluid had started to build up in his knee, so he had to get that taken care of. He should be home soon. Also, Scott Martin had to make an emergency trip to the hospital on Friday night. He was having a little trouble breathing, but seems to be okay now. We are praying for him. Charles Johnson had his surgery and came through it just fine. He now has a long convalescence ahead, but we know he is getting stronger every day. Dorothy Botts also came through her knee surgery with flying colors. We hear she has been up walking around some. We wish she were home celebrating Thanksgiving with us though. Kaethe Griffin was back in church on Sunday, walking very carefully. We also want to welcome to the community Peggy Fincher who is Ben Bowman's sister. Peggy has just moved here from Dallas. She thinks she's really going to enjoy lake living. Prayers were made for Elizabeth Rowan's father who visited here from Florida a couple of weeks ago. While he was here, he suffered a stroke and didn't know it. He just realized it when he got home and is now being treated for it. Thanks go to Rich Franko who put together the great Veteran's program for the Wednesday night fellowship meal. He is selling the CDs from it to raise money for the church sound system. A large crowd turned out on Saturday to deliver the Thanksgiving dinners and then eat the leftovers. A special guest that day was Jose Perez Amores, a Fulbright Scholar from Murcia, Spain. He is teaching Spanish at Texas College this year. The Angel Food boxes were also delivered on Saturday. The orders for December can also include fruit boxes and other gift boxes for the holidays. Be sure and see Mary Ann or Dale Whisenhunt if you want to order something. At the Sunday service, the congregation was treated to a musical special by the children. They sang "Jesus Loves Me," and also performed it in sign language. Next week, at the 11:00 a.m. service, we are in for another treat. The four person bell choir from Pollard UMC will be performing. Everyone is welcome to come out and hear them. On December 1st, the Hanging of the Greens service will be held. Those who want to get the church ready for this event should meet up at the church on that same day at 9 a.m. All help is welcome. The birthdays coming up for the rest of the month are Barb Cade, Sean Sullivan and Jan Decker. Anniversaries are coming for Ken and Barb Cade and Richard and Donna Franko. |
