MISD to hire math teacher The Murchison Independent School District Board of Trustees met Thursday, November 15 to discuss several dates and the school budget. During the meeting the board went into executive session over a matter of personnel; they voted to hire Dennis Pierce as the new junior high school math teacher. Scott Beene, MISD superintendent, said the decision was made mainly to replace Sam Scott, the last junior high math teacher who notified the board of his resignation last month. "Officially, he'll start when we get back in January on the seventh," Beene said. "We're looking forward to adding him to our staff." Beene also said while the plan is for Pierce to replace Scott, junior high math teacher will likely not be his only job. In addition to hiring Pierce, the board confirmed the date of the next meeting for December 20. During this meeting, there will be a public hearing to go over the Academic Excellence Indicator System report. The report will relay information on the school's Academically Recognized ranking. The board also discussed the date and time of its team building workshop, which will be December 10 at 5 pm. The decision changed the date of the workshop from some time in November, as was hinted at in the October meeting. In addition, the school's finances are still in good shape, Beene said. "Everything's in order according to the budget," Beene also said. Finally, the board noted attendance was down in the month of October. In September MISD enrollment was at 150 students, while at the end of October the number hit 148. For now, however, the number is holding steady closer to 150, as Beene said more students had enrolled since the end of October. There were no further administrative comments during the meeting, and with the consent agenda approved, the board adjourned. |
