Rawlings to speak at First Baptist, Chandler

Dr. Harold Rawlings of the Rawlings Foundation will be speaking at First Baptist Church, Chandler on Sunday evening December 2nd at 6:00 pm.

Dr. Rawlings is the author of several books, most notably Trial By Fire, which is the struggle to get the Bible into the English language and subsequently into the hands of the common man.

He will be speaking on the history of the struggle to "English" the Bible. As part of his discussion, he will provide colorful descriptions of the distinctive contributions of various early Bible translators such as John Wycliffe and William Tyndale..Rendering the scriptures into English in the time of Wycliffe and Tyndale was an act fraught with peril.

Simply possessing a Wycliffe Bible was enough to get a lay person tried for heresy. Tyndale saw his work confiscated and burned by the English ecclesiastical authorities and he was burned at the stake in 1536.

Dr. Rawlings received his Ph D from Louisiana Baptist University and he is a roving ambassador for the Rawlings Foundation. His book, Trial By Fire has grown out of a lecture he has given in churches, institutions and lecture halls across the nation. Some of the many ancient Bibles and manuscripts in the Rawlings Foundation collection are used to illustrate the lecture.

The public is invited to come hear Dr. Rawlings. Admission is free. A love offering will be taken for him.
