Rains, Ennis no match for Bearettes

With games on Monday and Tuesday before the Thanksgiving holiday break the Varsity Bearettes made sure they had something to be thankful for on the holiday.
Last Monday the Bearettes traveled to Emory to face the Rains Wildcats in non-district basketball action.
Brownsboro came out firing as they scored 18 first period points while holding Rains to 11 points. At the half the Bearettes led 21-16.
The Bearettes kept control of the game in the second half holding off all Wildcats charges to win the game 42- 34.
Overall the Bearettes were 12-20 from the free throw line while Rains was 6-17 from the line.
Monica Redfearn drained two 3-pointers for the Bearettes as she led the team in scoring with 12 points. Redfearn led off the game with back to back threes, she scored eight first period points.
Naomi Scott also scored in double figures for Brownsboro with 10 points.
On Tuesday the Bearettes hosted Ennis, a Class 4A team, in Brownsboro.

After a close first half of play that saw Ennis take a 20- 18 halftime lead the second half got interesting.
Redfearn started the second half off for the Bearettes with a three pointer to regain the lead 21-20. Ennis answered right back with a three of their own to regain the lead.
Using a press defense Ennis built a six point lead midway through the third period.
Trailing by four entering the final period of play the Brownsboro Bearettes heated up. After scoring only 18 first half points the Bearettes scored 23 points in the eight minute fourth period to defeat Ennis 58-47.
Ennis led by six points to start the period before the Bearettes kicked in both on offense and defense.
The `D' created several Ennis turnovers and was quicker to rebounds and loose ball than their counterpart.
Brownsboro took the late lead with 4:24 left in the game and built a five point lead with 2:09 left to play as Bianca Mosley nailed a free throw.
Naomi Scott increased the Bearettes lead to seven with back to back free throw before Brittney Lee buried Ennis' hopes of a comeback with a three pointer with :43 on the clock.
Lee totaled eight points in the game while nailing two second half three pointers.
Monica Redfearn also had a three in the game as part of her seven points.
Leading scorer on the night was Brownsboro's Chelsea Chimney with 22 points. Bianca Mosley chipped in 16 points in the winning cause. Both girls scored points in every period of play.
Overall the Bearettes (3-2) were 17-27 from the free throw line good for 63%. It was Ennis' first loss of the season, they are now 4-1.
Coach Fred Griffin is now 14 wins away from 800 on his career. His overall record stands at 786-263.
Brownsboro will take part in the Tyler Ford Hoop Heaven Tournament this weekend in Lindale.
Brownsboro will open the tournament on Thursday at 7:00pm against Winona in the middle school gym.
If the Bearettes win they will then play on Friday at 5:30pm in the high school gym. A lose and the Bearettes would play at 8:30am Friday also at the high school.
Brownsboro will play either Grace or Hawkins in the second round.
