James G. Lewis Services for James G. Lewis, 57, Brownsboro, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home chapel, Athens, with James Golden and Brother Tommy Weems officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery near Brownsboro. Mr. Lewis died December 4, 2007, in Athens. He was born June 23, 1950, in Athens and lived most of his life in Henderson County. He grew up in the New Hope community and graduated from Brownsboro High School in 1968 where he was a member of the state champion basketball team of 1967. He served in the Army National Guard, 1971-1976, and worked for Trane in Tyler for more than 35 years. He was owner/operator of B&L Farms and owner of Lewis Sand & Gravel, and a member of New Hope United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by brother, Richard Carl Lewis, and parents-in-law, Jim and Ann Blakeney. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Patricia Ann Blakeney Lewis, Brownsboro; parents, E.C. and Marvene Lewis, Brownsboro; brothers, Glynn Lewis, Tyler, Marcus Lewis and Junior Lewis, both of Brownsboro; sister, Kay Forester, New York community; nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Randall Chitty, Larry Lawrence, Jerry Alexander, Felix Vasquez, Jeffrey Hopson and Ricky Daily. Honorary pallbearers were Randy Parker, Bobby Hopson, Randall Browning, Adam Lewis, Michael Hopson, Lawrence Dunn, Scott Brumfield and co-workers of Paint Dept. No. 641 of Trane.
