Highway collision slows traffic, hospitalizes one A major accident on Highway 31 and FM 607 resulted in cuts and bruises Friday, December 14. The wreck occurred at around 11:45 am on wet roads. The collision involved a gray 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 and a red 2007 Toyota Corolla RE. According to the driver of the Dodge Ram, Joyce Bevans, the cause was when she attempted to turn onto Highway 31 without seeing Janie Wilson, the Corolla driver. "I didn't see the car coming, " Bevans said. Bevans sustained minor cuts and scrapes, though the Ram's ra- diator was damaged in the wreck. Janie Wilson said she was traveling east on 31 and had begun to slow down on her approach to Brownsboro when the Ram struck her vehicle. "I was near one of those big garbage trucks when it happened, " Wilson said. Wilson also said she thought it was likely her small car was difficult to spot traveling behind the large garbage truck. The Brownsboro Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene along with the Brownsboro Police Department and the highway patrol. Volunteer fire fighter Mark Massaro said Wilson was taken to Trinity Mother Frances hospital after the crash. "She was complaining about neck, back and chest pain after the collision," Massaro said. An emergency vehicle arrived and Wilson was put in a neck brace before being taken to the hospital. The Corolla suffered heavy damage on the driver's side, though specific damages were unclear at the time of the collision. The accident blocked one lane of traffic heading to the debris from the vehicles were cleared from the site at 12:33 pm. |
