Following the big win at the Great East Texas Shootout the varsity Bears ran into a tough stretch of teams as they faced Lindale before playing in the Bryan Mewbourne Classic in Martins Mill.

On Tuesday in Brownsboro the Bears showed signs of fatigue following the Shootout as they fell to the Eagles by the score of 59-44.

Lindale outscored the Bears 21-7 in the first period of play and never looked back. In the fourth period the Bears fought to within 10 points of the Eagles but could not erase the double digit lead.

Keaton Parsell led the Bears in scoring with 10 points while Seth Martin, Zack Bailey and Broox Nichelson all had eight points in the game.

Nichelson hit two 3-pointers for the Bears while Martin sunk one from beyond the arc.

Playing against some of the top teams in the area in the Bryan Mewbourne Classic the Bears defeated Malakoff in the opening game before falling to Martins Mill and Arp. Arp is ranked number one in Class 2A. Martins Mills is ranked fifth in Class A.

Parsell led the way in the Bears win over Malakoff with 19 points as the Bears rolled to a 53-48 win. Andrew Adair scored 11 points and nailed the Bears only trey of the game.

With seconds to play in round two of the tournament the Bears trailed by one, 48- 47 host Martins Mill with possession of the ball. An intentional foul following a Bear turnover led to two Martins Mill points and a three point win for the host team.

Tristian Warren led the Bears in scoring with 10 points. Ryan Smith hit the Bears only 3-pointer in the game.

In the final game of the tournament for the Bears an 8- 0 run by Arp with four minutes to play in the game led to the Tigers 53-48 win.

Brownsboro led 44-42 with four minutes left to play before the Tigers outscored the Bears 11-4 to close the game.

While the loss to Arp dropped the Bears record on the season to 8-7 the biggest loss of the game was the injury of starter Seth Martin. Martin's injury marks the third Bear starter injured this season.

Adair (13) and Smith (10) both scored in double figures against Arp. Adair sank two 3-pointers in the loss. The Bears finished fourth in the tournament.

Cayuga defeated Martins Mill to claim the Classic title.

On Friday the Bears are scheduled to play in Eustace at 7:30pm. December 27-29 the Bears are scheduled to take part in the Kaufman Holiday Classic.

Brownsboro will begin District 14-3A play on Friday, January 11 against Canton in Brownsboro.
