Notice: The Statesman will be closed on Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day. All ads and story information for the May 29 issue must be turned in by Friday, May 23 at noon.

Asbury Cemetery will hold its annual memorial meeting Saturday, May 17, at 11 am. There will be a short service and group singing. Meeting will be followed by a potluck - bring beverages and a dish to share. All are welcome.

The Jennings Mountain Cemetery Memorial Service will be Sunday, May 18. Service will begin at 2 pm. Tom Bragdon will be the guest speaker.

Lake Palestine United Methodist Church will hold its Kite Day Saturday, May 17. The event at the church on FM 315 will start at 9 am. Free kites for kids.

Westside Volunteer Fire Department will hold its biannual Fish Fry on May 24 at the fire department on FM 315. Event starts at 10 am.

Any Navy and Marine Corps shipmates who served on the USS Columbus CA-74/CG-12 from 1944- 1976 and the USS Columbus SSN-762 past and present, if you would like to share memories and camaraderie with old friends and make new ones, contact Allen R. The Murchison Head Start program is still enrolling three and four year olds before September 1. Call 469-4034 for information.

Chandler Elementary School will hold its Spring Festival on May 16 from 5 pm to 8 pm. There will be food, games and fun for the whole family.

A powderpuff football game will be held at the Brownsboro football field May 16. There will be a $1 donation cost; donations will go to three school families who have experienced death this year.

CBACC noon luncheon May schedule: San Pedro's in Chandler on May 22.

CBACC Board meeting will be at the school administration building in Brownsboro on May 22 at 5:30pm.

Coming in fall: A class reunion is being planned for all who attended the Old Chandler High School and guests. Help in planning is needed. Think of those who were in class during your high school days and make a list to contact "old friends". The date will be Saturday, September 20. Reserve and watch for details. Let's make this a "homecoming to remember". Let us know if you would like to represent your class.

Brownsboro Young Farmers Association will be having their monthly meeting Monday 5/19/08, 6:30pm at the BHS Ag/Voc. Building.

Calvary Baptist in Brownsboro will hold a prayer breakfast on the second Saturday of each month with Pastor John Parker. Good food and fellowship, come 8 am.

Bread of Life Distribution Food Bank on the third Saturday of each month. 8 am - 12 pm. Any volunteers would be accepted and appreciated. Calvalry Baptist hosts this food bank for public awareness.
