Come fly a kite by the lake
CHANDLER, TX - Begining this Saturday, May 17 kites will be flying in the sky around Lake Palestine. Kite pilots of all ages are invited to attend Lake Palestine United Methodist Church's kite day that begins at 10am. Kites will be provided for those without and doors prizes will be awarded to kids. Athens ISD bond proposal denied
ATHENS, TX - A $28.4 million bond was rejected by Athens ISD voters on Saturday, May 10. The issue failed by 170 votes, 934 against and 764 for. The bond would have allowed the school district to grow by adding more classrooms. It also would have allowed for various improvements across the campuses. Jennie Mahmoud and Steve McElhany were elected to the AISD school board. Both had previous experience on the board.
Malakoff ISD bond passes
MALAKOFF, TX - By at vote of 339 for and 153 against the $7 million bond for Malakoff ISD was approved on Saturday. A total of 492 voters voted on the issue. The bond will be used to upgrade the high school and middle school. The bond will not raise the ISD taxes.
TMF Hospital offering WIFI
TYLER, TX - Mother Frances Hospital announced today that wireless Internet service is now available inside most of the main campus building. Patients, family members and guests can access the Internet using wi-ficapable laptops.
"For those who want to stay in contact with family and friends while at Mother Frances in Tyler, this new free Internet connection is something we are proud to be able to provide," said Becky Western, director of information technology, Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics.
Anyone wishing to use the wi-fisystem will need to enter his or her email address to gain access.

Web Portal to Economic Resources
AUSTIN, TX - Texas Comptroller Susan Combs Tuesday unveiled Texas Ahead, a one-stop Web portal to economic resources for growing and governing Texas. The new Web site at www.texasahead.org provides targeted resources for businesses, local governments and economic development professionals, giving them vital information they need when making decisions about doing business in Texas or planning for economic growth.
Spring Shootout Soccer Tournament
TYLER, TX - The 11th annual Trinity Mother Frances SportsCARE Spring Shootout soccer tournament, benefiting the Tyler Soccer Association, is May 16 through 18 at Lindsey Park in Tyler. The public is invited.
"This event is a major fundraiser for the Tyler Soccer Association and attracts as many as 100 teams and 1,000 players from all over Northeast Texas," said Thomas Gros, Trinity Mother Frances SportsCARE. "SportsCARE is proud to sponsor this event and we encourage the public to attend."
