All-District team announced

Randi Smith Randi Smith Two Brownsboro High School juniors earned a spot on the District 14-3A All-District team that was released on Monday. Bullard was knocked out of the playoffs on Saturday with a 1-0 loss to Liberty Eylau in 18 innings ending District 14-3A's representation in the playoffs.

Bearette Randi Smith was named to the first team as a shortstop along with Athens senior Staci Hankins. Smith had a season batting average of .380 and scored 14 runs.

Brownsboro's Ashley Costlow was named to the first team as an outfielder. Other first team outfielders are Shelbie Johnson of Athens, Mandy Gillard of Bullard and Jarah Wright of Chapel Hill. Costlow was the Bearettes starting centerfielder at the end of the season.

Other members of the first team include pitchers Alicia McDowell of Athens and Cindi Farrell of Canton; catchers Allison Burton of Bullard, Courtney Pinkerton of Chapel Hill and Chasity Smith of Van. First team first baseman is Brittni Vivon of Athens; second basemen are Maegan Spears of Canton and Kenzi Morton of Athens. Valarie Roberts of Bullard was named to the first team as a third baseman.

Superlative awards went to Erin Kipp of Bullard (MVP), Holly Eckert of Athens (Offensive Player), Brittany Wood of Van (Defensive Player), Shelby Harris of Van (Pitcher), Alayna Kipp of Bullard (Newcomer) and Coach of the Year was Billy Holcomb of Bullard.

Members of the Bearettes that earned a spot on the second team were pitcher Krystin Groothuis, catcher Carley Smith, first baseman Chelsea Holcomb and outfielder Stefani Vause.

Overall six Bearettes earned a spot on the All-District team for the 2008 season.

All-District All-Academic team members from Brownsboro are Stefani Vause, Randi Smith, Krystin Groothuis, Danielle Bynum, Carley Smith, Ashley Costlow and Chelsea Holcomb. Lindsey Wood earned honorable mention for Brownsboro.
