Athens Animal Shelter in need of donations

2008-08-21 / News

The supporters of the Animal Shelter in Athens have always responded to requests for supplies.

Because of the substantial increase in the number of surrendered animals in the summer months, basic supplies are desperately needed.

Donations may be taken to the Animal Shelter Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00-1:00.

Animal Shelter

Supply List:

Bleach, liquid laundry detergent, paper towels, dish soap (no anti-bacterial), cat litter (not scoopable - the cheapest is great), kitten food (Kitten Chow is needed), Special Kitty in the yellow bag, Vienna sausages (Libby Brand only, for giving pills), canned cat food (ground type only), old towels, 12-gal. kitchen trash bags, large trash bags (at least 2 mil.), and stuffed animals (no beany babies) and toys.

The Athens Animal Shelter is beginning a campaign to raise the fundfor purchase a light commercial washer and dryer. Such a system would reduce the number of wash loads from 7 per day, 6 days a week to only ONE per day. This system is urgently needed and will cost approximately $10,000. Anyone wishing to make a tax deductible contribution designated for the washer/dryer fund may send checks to P.O. Box 162, Athens 75751, or call the Shelter, 903-677-7387 to make a credit card contribution. Contributors may also set up monthly draft contributions.

The goal is to raise the money within three months. With the support of the community, such a project is certainly possible. Amounts raised toward the purchase of the washer and dryer will be reported every two weeks until the total is raised.

Watch for exciting announcements about Shelter Operations in September.
