What's Happening

Annual homecoming for Martin Springs Baptist Church is September 14. The church will celebrate 93 years; services start at 9:30 am. There will be singing, gospel, preaching and a service honoring deacons and elders. Morning service will be followed with an old-fashion dinner on the grounds. Church is located from Chandler on FM 315. Turn right past the bridge onto FM 3079; church is about two miles down on the left.

The Kickapoo Creek 4H Club will hold their first meeting on Monday, September 8 at 6:30 pm in the Opelika Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. For more information, please contact Darla Williams at 903-469-3639.

The Ladies Auxiliary of Post #5073 are sponsoring an art contest that could bring as much as $10,000 toward a high school student's college education. The student is eligible to enter the Patriotic Art Contest. There will be a winner from each post in Texas. The Brownsboro Beautification Commitee will have a meeting Thursday, September 4, in Brownsboro City Hall at 7p.m. They will meet every first Thursday of each month starting at 7p.m. The public is encouraged to attend and help support making Brownsboro more beautiful.

Story-time at the Chandler Public Library will resume Thursday, September 4, at 10 a.m. Lynda McQuaid will be returning as story-teller. For more information call the library at 903-849-4122.

TVCC will host orientation for adult education and GED classes the first week of September. Orientation is at TVCC-Palestine on September 4 (Room C114) and TVCC-Terrell on September 8 (Room E112). East Texas Back Roads Band, formerly known as Marvin and The messengers 4, has recently changed their name due to the passing of Marvin Jones. East Texas Back Roads Band will perform from 6-8:30p.m., at Parkside Shores Clubhouse, every first and third Monday of the month. Though the name has changed, this definitely does not mean the good sound of the band has. Free admission, free food and free country gospel. It's a freefor all. Edom Bakery and Grill is looking for a Guest Chef every Wednesday night through September. The Bakery will provide 5 X 7 cards on which to submit a favorite recipe. Drop it into the fishbowl at the bakery and, if selected, the recipe donor will be the guest chef with the recipe becoming the Wednesday night special.

Storytime at the Chandler Library for preschool - 3rd grade will be every Thursday. There will also be a special Saturday morning program for 4th - 7th grade readers. Starting time for this group is at 9:30 am.
