It's nearly time for one of the biggest Chandler area events of the year: the Chandler Brownsboro Area Chamber of Commerce Pow Wow.

The event will take place in Chandler's Winchester Park on Highway 31 south of Chandler on Saturday morning, starting at 10 am.

Jeff Smiley, advisor to the chamber, said there are a few changes this year.

"Obviously our parade has changed," he said. "People are going to find it more connected to our community thanks to our theme of excellence in education at Brownsboro Independent School District."

The parade's grand marshal will be the school's superintendent, Elton Caldwell. Perry Eaton, parent involvement coordinator, will be the master of ceremonies at the Pow Wow.

Last year's Pow Wow had a talent show with the Brownsboro High School Golden Girls Drill Team assisting. This year the Golden Girls will put on the show.

"This year it's all theirs," Smiley said.

All talents are welcome for the show. Anyone who can dance, sing, tell clean jokes, juggle or do just about any other family oriented thing that will entertain the crowd.

Entry fee is $10 and must be paid before the competition. Last year over $400 in prizes was given away, and the show was a big hit.

Those planning on playing an instrument or bringing a CD track to sing should make this known in advance.

For more information, contact Julie Crawford at 903- 849-3641. The talent show starts at around 12:30 pm.

Things are well along the way in preparation for the big day. There will be vendor booths, of course, with a great variety of all types of products.

New to Pow Wow this year will be two gentlemen with Indian ancestry dressed up as chiefs. They'll have Indian jewelry for sale and will give information about the Cherokee Indians.

Another addition is a concert at the tee-ball field which will kick off at about 6 pm. The show will feature a praise band from First Baptist Church in Chandler. In addition, the first, second and third place winners in the talent show will appear for an encore performance.

All the Pow Wow mainstays will return, including a kid's corral put on by a new area business called Pick a Party.

In addition, the Young Farmer's Pee Wee Rodeo is back. It will take place from 2-4 pm.

I t 's an opportunity to spend time as a family for an eventful day, with a free concert at the end.

The kickoff will start at about 11 am once the parade pulls into Winchester Park.

Smiley said there's still an opportunity for one or two last minute booth vendors to reserve a spot.
