The annual Memorial Service and Dinner of the five-area chapters of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was held at the Tyler Woman's Building on Thursday evening, October 2, 2008. A vespers service entitled "Celebration of Life" was led by Iota Delta chapter members Harriet Renner, Kaye Hayden, and Jeannie Jones honoring deceased members of the Tyler chapters.

Names were read and recorded, white roses were laid across the book, and candles were snuffed out during the necrology ceremony.

Beverly Kelly, President of Theta Nu, presided over the dinner meeting. The program "Leaving a Legacy" was presented by Theta Nu Members, Mary Tindall, Cindy Swinney, Linda Nichols, and Geetha Ramararathnam.

Members were encouraged to make a list of their "Glories, Gifts, and Graces," accomplishments of which they were proud, aptitudes and attitudes that contributed to their success, and fortunes or misfortunes that strenghened them. A scrapbook with old photographs with no names reminded members to take pictures and record those memories for future generations. "Legacy Boxes" could be made for family members and relatives including letters, favorite toys, jewelry, books, newspapers and items that were important during their lifetime.

Writing impressions of your children from birth to adulthood can be a treasure for them, and passing down family heirlooms and photos give descendants "a piece of home." Members were challenged to be a "Memory Keeper" in our families.

The meeting was adjourned after singing The Delta Kappa Gamma Song.
