New TTAS Girls' softball league to hit Chandler
The City of Chandler has announced that a new TTAS Girls' softball league will be coming to Winchester Park next spring after a year's absence.
When the board of East Texas Girls' Softball elected to move all of their games to Brownsboro last year, many parents contacted City Hall expressing their desire to have their daughter be allowed to continue to play in Chandler. After several meetings at the conclusion of this past season involving City officials and Council members, coaches, parents and officials from Texas Teenage Baseball, it was determined to be in the best interest to again offer girls' softball to those children who wish to play in Chandler.
With that in mind, BMC Youth Foundation, which currently operates a TTAB Boys' Little League at Winchester Park each year, will form a new TTAS affiliated Girls' Softball league which will play their games in Chandler while the East Texas Girls' Softball League will continue to play their games in Brownsboro. By having the Chandler league Boys and Girls under one organization, it will be more in line with how the vast majority of organizations from other area towns run their leagues. Officials from Texas Teenage Baseball will be meeting soon with both Girls' leagues to determine boundary lines for each league, however it is understood that a child will be able to choose which league she wants to play in for the first and possibly second year, regardless of her residential address.
"We are very pleased that the City of Chandler will once again be offering Girls' softball, " Chandler City Administrator Jim Moffeit said. "We had an extraordinary amount of calls from parents wanting to know if Chandler could do something to allow their daughters to play again at Winchester Park. Several parents we spoke with had both a son and a daughter playing ball and it made it very difficult to have their son playing in Chandler and daughter in Brownsboro, occasionally on the same night."
An organizational meeting will be announced soon for any parent who has a daughter interested in playing in Chandler next year as well as anyone wishing to coach or be involved in the organization.
