Local schools to celebrate Veteran's Day
Area school districts are gearing up for their Veteran's Day programs, and local veterans are invited to attend. The program will be on November 11 for Murchison Independent School District and Brownsboro High School and November 10 for Brownsboro Junior High School.
MISD's program will start at 2pm, veterans should arrive at the school at about 1:45pm; the event will occur in the school's cafeteria.
Cindy Bailey, MISD teacher, said the children will sing for the veterans, and there will be a guest speaker.
"Our children will honor the veterans with songs and poems," she said. "All classes are preparing something for them."
The MISD junior high school students will prepare a PowerPoint presentation, and veterans will view DVD presentations on what it means to be a veteran.
There will also be a wall of honor where students will bring pictures of veterans dear to them. Students will also give tokens of appreciation to the visiting veterans.
Any veterans wanting to get in on the action can call the school at 903-469-3636.
Brownsboro High School's program will be sponsored by the Social Studies Department of the school, and its program will take place at 9am in the High School Gym.
Those wanting more information on BHS' Veteran's Day program can contact John Mayse at the high school at 903-852-2321. The deadline for information registration is November 7.
