Brownsboro businesses set for trick or treat day
The first of November is the day Brownsboro businesses will be out on Highway 31 passing out candy to trick-or-treating children. It will start at 6pm and continue for an hour.
Dusty Wise, owner of Y's Hometown Foods in Brownsboro, said he's been in the area over 17 years and the businesses have passed out candy ever since he's been here.
"It's a good, safe environment for the kids," he said.
While there's no word yet on how many Brownsboro businesses are in on this, usually nearly everyone in town participates.
"Last year we had Kabbage Patch, the donut shop, us, the Flower Patch, Piggy's, El Presidente, the bank and more passing out candy," Wise said.
There are no procedures to join and no paperwork to fill out. All businesses need to do is open their doors that Saturday at 6pm and have enough candy for several hundred children. Decorations and dress-up are encouraged.
Last year Y's Hometown Foods went through several hundred dollars worth of candy, Wise said.
During the evening, safety measures will be taken to keep children safe.
Lonnie McKinney, Brownsboro police officer, said he, along with a reserve officer and a warrant officer, will patrol Highway 31 during the event.
"We'll get people to slow down," he said. Out of all the trick-or-treat nights, McKinney said no bad occurrences have happened, so the plan has proven successful.
