St. Boniface Catholic

by Sue Beams

The members of St. Boniface commemorated the Feast of All Souls. A framed list of family members who have gone to their eternal rest was placed in front of the Altar. Fr. Luke prayed for the departed and we are reminded that they are in God's care and He will lead them to peace. The readings of the day focused not on the sadness of loss, rather on the confidence of eternal life.

In his homily, Fr. Luke approached the subject of Purgatory. As Catholics, we believe that there is no one so good that they may enter into heaven directly. Purgatory is not a place of punishment; it is a place where holy souls are purged and purified as they wait to enter heaven. In the Roman catacombs there are writings that ask for us to remember those who have gone before us in our prayers. In the Second Book of Maccabees 12:39-46 there is an indirect mention of rising from the dead. In Revelation 21:27 it states that nothing unclean will enter into heaven. In His mercy, God doesn't send us to Hell. And while all sins are forgiven in confession, the punishment must be endured for those sins. Through prayer, sacrifice and participation in the Eucharist we help the holy, helpless souls in Purgatory.

We welcomed a new member at St. Boniface. Daniel Moya, son of Heather and Ishmael Moya received the sacrament of Baptism during the Eucharist. What a joy to welcome this child of God into our family of faith. Please keep little Daniel and his family in your prayers.

Following Mass, refreshments were enjoyed by members and visitors. Thank you to the ladies of the Parish who provide these "goodies" for us each week.

Reminder: There is a donation jar to offset the weeks we must purchase bakery items. Please give generously.

Classes began today for those preparing for First Eucharist and Confirmation. Keep these young people in prayer as they prepare to receive these Sacraments.

First Friday devotions will be Nov. 7th following the 9am Mass with Adoration continuing until noon.

There will be a Pastoral Council meeting on Sunday, Nov. 9th at 2pm in the community room.

There will be a special Youth Mass on November 23rd and our Parish Thanksgiving dinner. Sign-up sheets are in the community room. Keep an eye on the bulletin for more information!

Congratulations and best wishes to all who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries.

We pray for comfort for those who are sick and suffering. Please continue to pray for the holy souls of the faithful departed, most especially for Ann Hodges' mother who passed away recently. Keep in prayer our service men and women. May they come home safely and soon.
