Services for Glen Ray Rhodes, 81, Murchison, were held Monday at Hilliard Funeral Home, Van, with the Rev. Lynette Solomon officiating. Burial was in Tidmore Cemetery.

Mr. Rhodes died November 28, 2008, in Athens.

He was born January 27, 1927, in Mineola to the late Grover C. and Sarah Puckett Rhodes. He graduated from Mineola High School in 1944, East Texas Teachers College in Commerce in 1951 and in 1954 with his Master's.

He served in the Army, taught school in Midland and was school superintendent in Greenwood, Mabank, Grapeland, Llano and Damon, retiring after 34 years. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Pauline "Polly" Henry Rhodes, and sons, Glen Ray Rhodes Jr. and James Allen Rhodes.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Rhodes, Murchison; son, Curtis Rhodes, Needville; daughter, Janet Kiker, Murchison; step-sons, Milton "Bud" Browning, Mineola, and Tommy Browning, Hawkins; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
