Bearettes in Great East Texas Shootout

Naomi tallied a total of 7-points for the Bearettes. This weekend Brownsboro sports fans dreamed of basketball. Brownsboro High School welcomed over 50 basketball teams to compete in the one and only Great East Texas Shootout; 28 boy teams, 23 girl teams and 100 games to be played in a matter of three days.

The Brownsboro Bearettes started off with a win on Thursday, December 11, against Chapel Hill's Lady Bulldogs (53-34).

By halftime, Chapel Hill was trailing behind by 22- points, the Lady Bulldogs tried to get back in the game but Brownsboro continued to put a beating on them.

Bearette Hillary Shaffer was the top scorer with 14- points.

Brownsboro, ranked sixth, then later went on to play the Pine Tree Lady Pirates.

After a huge defensive battle, Pine Tree and Brownsboro were tied after the third quarter. However, the Bearettes were able to steal the win 28-21. Hillary Shaffer, once again, was the leading scorer in the game with 13-points. Sabrina Bradley scored 11-points and tacked on a three-pointer.

The next day, the Bearettes were scheduled to play against the Cleburne Lady Jackets. This game brought on Brownsboro'first loss 41-48.

The Bearettes were never able to get a lead on Cleburne however, Brownsboro also never alTop: lowed Cleburne to get furbetween ther than 7-points ahead. Sabrina Bradley, the leading scorer, brought home 14- points for Brownsboro, six of those coming from two successful three-pointers. Hillary Shaffer added 12- points.

Saturday, the last day of the Shootout, the Bearettes claimed a victory over Van's Lady Vandals.

Brownsboro beat the Lady Vandals in a close game 54- 44. Hillary Shaffer was the the leader in points with 16, Sabrina Bradley followed with 15-points (6 of those coming from two good three-pointers) and LaQuesha Cooper scored 11.

To finish off the tournament the Bearettes played Mount Vernon Saturday afternoon. Mount Vernon was a bit of a different story.

Both teams consistently battled it out and the first quarter was left in a tie 9-9.

Bearette Naomi Scott opened up the second quarter and cracked the tie after she stole the ball and ran it all the way back for a Brownsboro lead 11-9.

With three minutes into the second quarter it was tied again.

Brownsboro's Sabrina Bradley broke the tie after two good free throws and another 2-points.

Naomi Scott followed with two good free throws, as well as Montoya Hightower.

The game ended in favor of Mount Vernon 54-47.

Up next for Bearettes is The Grand Saline Tournament scheduled for December 18-20.
