"You must not lie." -Exodus 20:16

Most of us, when we think about the "culture of street gangs" rightfully, or hopefully, think that they really don't touch our lives. But consider some of the strongest values held by these gangs which have either infiltrated our social system, or have influenced our society. Read a paper or magazine about those who refused to help the police for fear of betraying one's friend. What about the "whistle blowers" being fired for reporting a corporate lie? Most situations inspired by Satan can be started with a lie either directly or by omission. Youth are especially vulnerable to the belief that beginning a "tattletale" is a bad thing and that "loyalty" to a friend is the ultimate value, even when that person is engaged in something harmful or wrong. Remember "that knowing what is right to do and then not doing it is a sin." (James 4:17). Loyalty to a true friend should be based on the desire for their salvation. "That person who brings him back to God will have saved a wandering soul from death." (James 5:20).

The "Reviving our Faith" new year revival will be held next Sunday and Monday, January 13th and 14th from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The program will be held by Rope Myers, World Champion Rodeo Athlete and his wife Candice, a renowned Christian musician and speaker. Please mark your calendar, and contact your friends and neighbors. This will be a wonderful opportunity to share in the worship and praise of our Lord.

January 20th and 27th a Financial Seminar will be offered at our church by Dr. Herb Marlow. Dr. Marlow is a retired United Methodist minister, an author and writer, pastoral counselor, and television and radio speaker. The seminar will be for all ages, teenagers, young adults, adults, and senior citizens. One can never start too young in learning how to manage their financial resources, so this should be an excellent experience for the entire family.

Looking for a Bible study for the New Year? Beginning Monday, January 28th, Mrs. Munch will offer a course for women in "The Patriarchs" by Beth Moore, and Reverend Munch will teach "The Man God Uses," by Henry Blackaby for the men. Come join these studies, everyone is welcome, so bring a friend.

Happy Anniversary to: Jack and Jeannette Irwin, and Kenneth and Dana Parks.

Happy Birthday to: Julie Travis, Tanner Wilson, Taylor Talent, Goleta McDonald, Carol Wendt and Donny Wilson.

Thought for the Week: "Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:19
