Bailey, Epperson earn county superlative awards

On Monday, December 24 the All-Henderson County Area Football team was announced by the Athens Daily Review.

Two Brownsboro Bears earned superlative awards on the annual list as Brownsboro was the only school to have two spots in the superlative awards.

Last year's player of the year Ryan Epperson was named the 2007 Defensive player of the Year. Zack Bailey earned Sophomore of the Year while playing quarterback for the Bears.

Player of the Year for 2007 went to Stacey Womack. Womack, a senior, played running back for Trinidad.

Jim Wommack, of Athens, was named the Coach of the Year, an award won by Bears' coach John Settle last season.

Offensive Player of the Year went to Kolton Browning, a junior quarterback from Mabank. Newcomer of the Year was awarded to Trevan Johnson, a sophomore from Eustace.

Overall 12 Bears earned a spot on the annual team.

Earning first team defensive honors was Tristain Warren and David Rudd. Warren, a junior, was named as a Defensive Back while Senior David Rudd was named as a Punter.

Brownsboro was represented on the second team offense by Jerqualyn Dora, Keith Johnson and Monty Shultz. Dora and Johnson were named at Receiver while Shultz earned a spot on the Offensive line.

Sophomore Tyler Rogers was named second team defensive back while senior Damion Green was named to the second team at defensive line.

Honorable Mention went to Jared Bray (DL) , Chance Parks (OL) and Will Jones (RB).

Last season the Bears had 20 players named to the All Henderson County team.

The team was selected by the Athens Daily Review and Cedar Creek Pilot sports staff based on nominations by Henderson County coaches. Only players nominated by their schools were considered for the team.
