Teetering on the edge

Nathan Straus Photo A 1994 blue GMC Sierra pickup blew a tire and smashed into a ditch Monday, January 7 on south FM-315 near FM-317 at about 11:10 am. The occupant, Crystal Simons, was trapped inside until West Side volunteer firefighters managed to stabilize the vehicle and extract Simons from the car. The pickup stopped in the ditch, standing on its side, and threatened to fall on its top, crushing the trapped driver under the weight of the vehicle. West Side brought in stabilization equipment and busted the Sierra's back window to rescue Simons, who was taken to Trinity Mother Frances with a hurt left knee and foot, West Side volunteer firefighter Chris Moore said. The injuries were not life threatening. Part of the reason for the crash was a failure to control speed.
