St. Boniface Catholic
by Sue Beams

On the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time members of St. Boniface celebrated the Eucharist with Fr. Jesse and Deacon Steve Curry. In his homily, Deacon Steve shared with parishioners his belief that we all want to go to Heaven and the Church is an instrument to make that happen. In today's reading, the Prophet Isaiah tells us that we are known `from the womb'. We are indeed fortunate to have come from the womb to love and serve our Lord. Not all were able. This week marks the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. This controversial decision has haunted us for over three decades.

Deacon Steve went on to say that by the will of God, thru the Church of God we are called as a church to bring unity. The church was established to evangelize, to share the Gospel message with everyone! As Catholics we are called to celebrate the life of Christ and our walk with Him. We should live our faith by actions and in our words. When you know the Truth - share it! To every Catholic: there should never be any doubt that you love and serve the Lord.

Knights of Columbus member Joe Hoffman placed a white rose on the altar in memory of the babies killed by abortion since the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision. Please pray for these `little souls'.

Following Mass, refreshments were served in the community room. Speaking of that, the ladies have asked that a gentle reminder be made: Your donations to the `Blessings Jar' go toward providing the refreshments you enjoy each week. Please be mindful and put a little something in the jar!

Thanks to everyone who helped take down the decorations! It is a big task, however, when you have a great crew, it seems less daunting. The church looks a little bare with all the beautiful trees and poinsettias gone! Fr. Jesse requested a few re-arrangements in the church. We may have to think about a fresh coat of paint in the near future!

Several reminders: The Lions Club continues to collect eyeglasses. There is a collection box in the community room. Also there is always a need for non-perishable food items for God's Open Hands. Again, you will find a box in the community room for your donations.

There are several events planned for the youth of St. Boniface in coming weeks. A service project is scheduled on February 2, 2008 from 9am until approximately 1 pm. St. Boniface youth will rake leaves at a member's home. Lunch will be provided. Also, there will be a pancake and bacon breakfast served by the youth on Sunday, February 3, 2008. Cost will be $4 a plate. Please plan to stay after Mass and support our youth.

Deacon Steve asked that you are made aware of the Marriage & Wellness Enrichment program scheduled for Saturday, February 2, 2008 at St. Mary's Parish Hall in Longview. The cost is $30 per couple and with topics such as communication covered, this sounds like a bargain! For more information, or to register, call 903-534- 1077 ext. 165.

Congratulations and best wishes to all those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries.

Please keep in prayer all those who are sick and suffering. Remember, too the souls of the faithful departed; may they rest in peace. We continue to pray for the men and women of the armed services who by their service keep us safe.

Have a blessed week.
