VZ County Genealogical Society to install officer and award members The Van Zandt County Genealogical Society will install their new officers for the comng year and give awards to special members. The new officers will immediately take office. The honored members, a closely guarded secret, will step up to receive their awards for a variety of categories. President, Cheryl Vaughn has accepted the position for another year as has Kitty Wheeler who will continue as First Vice-President. Shirley Fuller will continue as Second Vice-President, Sibyl Creasey as Recording Secretary and Kay Murphree as Correspond- ing. Sherrie Archer will assume the position of Treasurer and Jane Gamon has accepted the position as Public Relations for another year. Librarian Quana Barber will be the speaker and will tell of her adventures as a member of the Navy during World War II. She was the first woman from Van Zandt County to join the Navy after the Navy began to accept women into their branch of the armed services. She was also the first WAVES officer candidate from NTSTC in the Navy. She spent 20 years on active duty and is now retired. The meeting will be held at the Van Zandt County Library in Canton in the Buchanan Room at 2:00 on Saturday, January 26, 2008. The public is invited. |
