Chandler resident awarded top honor at Math Conference

Terrell Fenner of Chandler was awarded a top honor during the National Joint Mathematics Meeting held January 6-9, 2008, Dr. Jennifer McLoud-Mann, associate professor of mathematics at The University of Texas at Tyler, announced.

A senior mathemathics major, Fenner presented a poster that was named in the top "Outstanding" posters of the 180 that were presented. He was awrded a $100 prize.

"Last summer, Terrell participated in our Research Experience for Undergraduates Program as my research student, said McLoud-Mann. "To be eligible to present a poster, their work must include a new result and give a different proof of a known theorem, an innovative solution of a Putnam problem or give a new mathematical model or method of solution for an applied problem."

Faculty across the country served as judges for the session to determine which posters were among the best in the nation for the year.

Fenner expects to graduate this May and plans to attend graduate school.
