Edom Civic Theatre holds annual awards banquet

The Edom Civic Theatre concluded the 11th season with the annual Edey awards Banquet held January 26, 2008 at Willow Brook County Club in Tyler.

A seated dinner preceded presentations of awards for the season's productions, including certificates to all cast and crew members. Sherry Parker, an ECT cast member, entertained with musical selections.

Special Edey awards were made to Sibyl and Dale Creasey for Faithful Dedication to the Edom Civic Theatre and to Eddie and Carolyn Pirtle as All Around Supporters for 2007.

Robert Viana was named Best Actor; Pat Butler, Best Actress; Skip Walker and Terry McBurney, Best Supporting Actors; Lois Arneson and Lahri Gentry, Best Supporting Actresses.

Glen Vest and Eddie Pirtle were recognized as Best Minor Roles-Male, and Linda Parker and Sherry Gasper, Best Minor Roles-Female. Terry McBurney, Marty Wetherholt, Linda Ayers, Nancy Caro, Sherry Parker and Pat Butler were named Best Newcomers. Mary Scott was the winner of the Best Director Award.

Plays for the 2007 season included "Five Tellers Dancing in the Rain," directed by Lois Arneson and "The Odd Couple" and "Play On" directed by Mary Scott. ECT also held a box supper social and one-act play, "Dear Ole Golden Rule Days" as a scholarship fundraiser. The theatre presented two scholarships for $500 each to Danielle Colucci and Megan Moore, 2007 Van ISD graduates.

2008 Officers were presented: Mary Scott, president; Lois Arneson, vice president; Polly Martin, secretary-treasurer; and trustees Pat Butler, Carole Davis, Sherry Gasper, Terry McBurney, and Eddie Pirtle.

The 2008 season begins with "The Odd Couple (Female Version), March 7 and 8, continues with a dinner theatre presentation of "The Man with the Plastic Sandwich," June 20 and 21, and concludes with the musical revue "Pump Boys and Dinettes," November 7 and 8. All productions are in the Edom Community Center and reservations may be made by calling Polly Martin at 903-852-6803.
