VZ County Genealogical Society prepares for seminar The Van Zandt County Genealogical Society is currently preparing for an all-day genealogical seminar to be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ fellowship hall located on Hwy 243 in Canton. The featured speaker for the day will be John Sellers of Hopkins County who is a well-known and popular speaker in Texas as well as other states. The fee for the all-day event will be $30 which will include a continental breakfast and a catered lunch. Advance registrations are now being taken. Sellers' topics for this semi- nar will be "20th Century Research: From Carriages to Spaceships," "To Be, To Wed, To Pass: a Study of Vital Records," "Hidden Courthouse Records," and "What Do You Mean, It Burned: Is All Your Research Up in Smoke?" Sellers is a fifth generation native of Hopkins County. He has been doing genealogical research since 1985. His favorite area of research is in courthouses. He has visited courthouses in many southern states with extensive research in Texas and Louisiana. An active member of the Hopkins County Genealogical Society, Sellers has served 14 years on the executive board and as president of the society in 1987 and 1988. He has been a featured speaker at national and state conferences and over 45 all-day seminars in Texas. Box 1388, Canton, TX 75103 or come by the Library of Genealogy and Local History located in the courthouse annex in Canton.
