Awards given at VZCGS meeting

The January meeting of the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society was held January 26, 2008 at the Buchanan Room at the Van Zandt County Library in Canton.

The new officers for the coming year were installed by Martha Heard. She installed each officer with flowers that represented the character of each office. Those installed were Cheryl Vaughn, President; Kitty Wheeler, 1st Vice President; Shirley Fuller, 2nd Vice President; Sibyl Creasey, Recording Secretary; Kay Murphree, Corresponding Secretary; Sherrie Archer, Treasurer; and Jane Gamon, Public Relations.

Those continuing in their appointed positions were: Sue Wilkinson, Quarterly Editor, Linda Mays, Marjorie Tarver and Elvis Allen.

Special awards were given to the First Year Librarians: Kitty Wheeler, Carolyn Hair, Ann Bennett and Donna Carter. Two special awards were also presented to Librarians Kay Murphree and Harold Jones.

Car Parker of the Year was presented to Joe Waddill, and Honorary Car Parker was presented to Quana Barber.

Most hours worked by a librarian award as well as Volunteer of the Year were given to Sibyl Creasey and Librarian of the Year was given to Shirley Fuller. Outstanding Service to the President was awarded to Virginia Jones, and Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Quana Barber.
