Lions Den Chandler For more than 85 years, Lions have been recognized throughout the world for their services to the blind and visually impaired. In 1925, when Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become "Knights of the Blind," she could not have possibly imagined the impact of Lions' commitment to blindness prevention. Did you know that in the United States, one out of 35 adults is visually impaired, more than 150 million people need corrective eyewear to compensate for their refractive errors, and more than 9 million people over the age of 40 suffer from age-related diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma or macular degeneration? Lions have established the majority of eye banks worldwide, funded groundbreaking research on leading causes of blindness, organized eyeglass recycling efforts and helped millions of visually impaired people develop the skills to live productive lives. Does it make a difference? Absolutely! In 2007 the Chandler Lions Club alone provided sufficient funds to compensate for refractory errors in 350 individuals. If you would enjoy giving back to your community we are seeking members, men and women, willing to commit their time to the prevention of blindness and many other humanitarian projects. Contact Pat Kambhu at 903- 849-6355, or Tom Martin at 903-849-7154 for information and applications, or attend one of our meetings held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month in the Chandler Community Center at 6:30 p.m. We feed well, and have a lot of fun. |
