UIL shifts Brownsboro to Region III, District 20 Brownsboro sports fans, now is the time to start saving those extra pennies for gas as the University Interscholastic League (UIL) has completed their biennial realignment. The last realignment the Bears district did not change much, this time the only familiar face left in the Bears' district is Athens. Both teams remained in Class 3A. Formerly in Region II the Bears will now compete in Region III, District 20. Other teams in the District include Crockett, Fairfield, Palestine and Palestine Westwood. Palestine, Westwood and Fairfield all are a part of District 19-3A this season while Crockett is currently in District 20-3A. Athens stands to be the Bears early district rival as they are the only familiar face. In most sports the Bears have faced off against Westwood in the past two years. Based on information gathered at yahoo.com the trip from Brownsboro to Palestine is an estimated 48 miles, while the trip to Fairfield is 84 miles. The Bears' trip to Crockett is another tough one as it is 83 miles between the two cities. Maybe it is time to start saving the quarters for gas instead of the above mentioned pennies. In football last season Crockett earned a playoff berth (third seed) while finishing the season 8-4. Westwood also earned a playoff spot and finished the season 7-5. Palestine finished the season 5-5, while Fairfield finished 2-8. Brownsboro was 5-5 last season while Athens finished 5-6. While the sports front should remain very competitive the distance between district locations may become too much for local fans to travel. Bullard and Chapel Hill also moved to Region III. They will play alongside Gilmer, Gladewater, Spring Hill and Tatum in District 17-3A. Van and Canton remained together in the same district and region, Region II District 14- 3A. They will face off against Eustace, Kemp, Mineola and Wills Point.
The next UIL realignment is scheduled for the 2010-11 season. |
