Lake Palestine U.M.C.
by Barbara Cade

The week got off to a great start with two moving covenant services at both the 8:30 a.m. and the 10:50 a.m. services. This is such a good way to begin the Lenten season leading up to Easter. A fellowship meal was held after the service.

However, this has not been the only event this past week pertaining to this busy season. Last Saturday, the ladies of the church were treated to a breakfast by the Methodist Men. They enjoyed pancakes, bacon, sausage and all the rest in honor of Valentine's Day. Then, the Tuesday night before that, the whole church celebrated Shrove Tuesday with another pancake dinner. A jazz ensemble from Pollard United Methodist Church in Tyler provided the entertainment.

Wednesday night the Ash Wednesday service began the official season of Lent. Several were in attendance for this service led by Rev. Prather.

We heard last week that Kaethe Griffin was home with the flu or a bad cold. She must be feeling better because she was at the Valentine breakfast on Saturday. We are very glad to hear that.

Rose Cade did come home from the hospital, but is back in now with an infection.

It was good to see Jane Kuykendall at the Ash Wednesday service. Since Everett has been sick, she hasn't been able to get to church like usual. Barbara Norby was the good neighbor who brought her to the service.

Linda Massey took the opportunity this weekend to visit family and friends in Ft. Worth.

We also heard that June Hitt is battling a bad cold. We hope she feels better soon.

Last Sunday was also Boy Scout Sunday. Angela Martin, Alex and Josh all participated in the special recognition service at Chandler First United Methodist Church.

Mary Ann Whisenhunt planned another Valentine dinner at Traditions restaurant in Tyler for yesterday. It's always a lot of fun. I guess it's becoming an annual "tradition " now.

Barb Cade's mother was sick with the flu this past week.

We were glad to hear that LeeAnn Boggs' knee surgery went well. It shouldn't be long before she is back to normal.

We are praying for the family of Mary Chudleigh who passed away recently. Her funeral was this week.

Donna and Rich Franko are traveling again this week. They should be back sometime tomorrow.

Carla Fisher is still having choir practices but it has been moved to Saturday at 4 p.m. this week because of the conflict with the Valentine Dinner last night. The group is working on an Easter musical presentation.

And, finally, don't forget to get your free cabbage plant at the church. It's time to start thinking about spring planting.
