Henderson County burn ban in effect
By Nathan Straus News Reporter

Henderson County is now under a countywide burn ban following a Commissioners Court decision Friday, February 8. The ban is a temporary measure to combat the dry, flammable conditions in the area.

Stacy Glover, Henderson County Fire Marshall, said the ban was put into effect because the county is at a high fire risk.

"High winds and low humidity create ideal conditions for fires," Glover said.

Glover also said the ban will last for 30 days. Before this time span is over, a mea- sure to extend the ban will be voted on.

Jim Moffeit, Chandler city administrator, said when the county has a burn ban in place the city of Chandler will go along with the county's decision. Sometimes Chandler has a local burn policy in place.

"They're usually a lot more restrictive in their burn bans," Moffeit said.

Glover said this ban prohibits all burning outside of fires for agricultural purposes. In these instances, the Sheriff's office, as well as a local fire department, must be contacted.

"We're hoping this ban will cut down on some of these fires in the area," Glover said.
