MOMMA'S COOKIN'
Cornbread in an iron skillet,
Chicken and dumplins' in a pot
All the things my momma cooked,
Not one have I forgot.
Mayhaw jelly on a biscuit,
Crookneck squash in a dish,
You never use vegetable oil
When you are frying fish.
Pinto beans, and `tater salad,
And deviled eggs from time to time.
These things that my momma cooked
Are some favorite things of mine.
In the springtime it was blackberry cobbler;
You could smell it `way down the road.
Then she'd cook some Frito pie
When the weather was turning cold.
We played out in the yard,
And I was always quickest on my feet,
Whenever she stuck her head out the door,
And yelled "It's Time to Eat!"
You could be a friend or neighbor,
Or someone from a foreign land.
But you wasn't gonna get a bite to eat,
Until you washed your hands.
Our family was like a lot of folks,
We had our share of drama.
But there was no one anywhere I looked,
Who could cook as good as momma.

BLESS THIS FOOD
God bless this food
We are about to eat.
Now grab a chair
And have a seat.
