April in Edom deadline extended Edom's spring street fair, known as April in Edom, has extended its deadline for vendor participation to March 15. The original deadline was March 1, but this was extended to allow more vendors to participate. Robin Marshall, chairman of April in Edom, said so far 30 vendors have signed up to set up booths during the event, which will take place on April 19 and 20. "We're aiming for 60-75 vendor booths," Marshall said. Those wanting to purchase booth space for the street fair can sign up at www.aprilinedom.com or call (903)-852-4438 or 6792. Booth space is 10 square feet and costs $75 for the duration of the event. This is a change from last year's April in Edom, where the cost was $100. Vendors must provide their own booths. Security will be provided at the street fair for vendors, however. Availability is not limited just to arts and crafts vendors. April in Edom began in 2006, Marshall said, when merchants of Edom got together and decided to hold the event as a spinoff of the annual Edom Arts Festival in October. Despite being a spin-off, it is still a very popular outing. "April in Edom brings as many people to town as the arts festival, " Marshall said. Among the features at the 2008 April in Edom will be the Brownsboro Golden Girls drill team, True Country AM's Dee Ellis, and the Texicans. The Texicans, sponsored by The Shed cafØ in Edom, are people who dress up in old western attire and put on a show. There will also be attractions set up for small children such as a blow-up maze and slide, pony rides, and a train made out of plastic barrels. Marshall said the main reason to come to Edom during the street fair is to visit the vendors and check out the arts and crafts. Katie Klier, owner of the Mountain Magic Gifts and Gallery shop in Edom, said April in Edom will be a family oriented event. "It's wonderful," Klier said, "Everyone can come and bring five dollars and afford to buy the family something." Edom is an arts community located around five miles north of Brownsboro. |
