Chandler Intermediate Science Fair Participants head for Regionals

Chandler Intermediate School held its 3rd Annual Science Fair on January 29, 2008. All 25 projects entered were required to be experimental in nature. "Best Methods for Purifying Water, Fast Fire" (which way is best to start a fire quickly), "What To Eat Next?" (which food deer prefer), "Stop the Rot" (best method for preserving an apple), "Got Milk?" (which milk product spoils the quickest), "Bombing Bats" (testing which baseball bat would allow the batter to hit the ball the farthest), "What Happens When You Drop that Pencil?" (bacteria on pencils), "Whose Mouth is Cleaner?" (testing the inside mouths of animals and people) were just a few of the projects on display.

Fourth Grade winners: 1st place: "Got Milk? by Caleb Seale; 2nd place: "What Happens When You Drop that Pencil?" by Dalton Caldwell; 3rd place: "Electromagnets: Picking up Paperclips."

Fifth Grade winners: 1st place: "Whose Mouth is Cleaner?" by Brittney Emanuel and Samantha Clay; 2nd place: "What to Eat Next?" by Baylee McCurley, Haley Thomas, Sami Jo Taylor; 3rd place: "Fast Fire" by Dan Strocchia.

Sixth Grade winners: 1st place, "Bombing Bats" by Jake Boyd and Chris Davis; 2nd place: "Pressure and Freezing/Melting Point of Water" by Zane Griffin; and 3rd place: "Magnetic Energy" by Dakota Duke.

Specialty Awards: "Best Use of Photography - Bombing Bats" (Jake Boyd and Chris Davis); and "Best Environmental Project - Methods of Purifying Water" (Gabe Grantham, Carter Taylor, Josh Seale).

Fifth and Sixth Grade 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will advance to the East Texas Regional Science Fair in Kilgore, Texas on March 6th.
