Local group raises over $1,000 for African Orphanage at bake sale The proceeds from two recent bake sales sponsored by Flatwood Ministries of Edom, will be a tremendous blessing to children of the New Ark Orphanage in Benin, West Africa. After learning that this orphanage was in danger of closing for lack of funds, it became a goal of Flatwood's children's workers to help keep their doors open. One hundred percent of the $1,787.00 earned from the bake sales will be sent to the orphanage. Other fundraising events are planned and donations are being sought for this project. The NEW ARK orphanage and boarding school, located in a rural village in Northern Benin, is home and school to approximately 150 children. "If the school closes many of them will have nowhere to go except back to the bush," explained Marion Kirkpatrick, Pastor. The Kirkpatricks became involved with the orphanage through their Future4kids sponsorship program which they established after a mission trip to Benin in 2004. Over 100 children are sponsored monthly through the program and many more are on their waiting list. For more information about the orphanage or sponsorship program, contact Flatwood Ministries at 903-852-6997. Mike and Marion Kirkpatrick have served as pastors of Flatwood Assembly of God for the past 27 years. The church is located 2 miles West of Edom on FM 279. |
