Barnes pitches no-hitter as JV Bearettes open softball season In a whirlwind start the Junior Varsity Bearettes have started the season with a 3-2 record following Monday's game in Malakoff. In Malakoff the Bearettes defeated the Lady Tigers by the score of 7-5. Allison Palmer earned the win as she recorded 5 strike outs. She also doubled and drove in two runs. Haley Suggs drove in a run for the Bearettes and stole a base in the win. Other Bearettes to steal a base against Malakoff were Logan Gaughan, Courtney Cook (4), Taylor Barnes and Ashleigh Alford (2). Cook singled and tripled in the contest. To open the 2008 softball season the Bearettes defeated Palestine 10-1 in Brownsboro on Monday, February 11. Taylor Barnes was the winning pitcher as she pitched a no hitter while striking out nine Lady Cats. While the bracket play portion of the Lindale Tournament was canceled due to bad weather the JV Bearettes played in three pool games. Pleasant Grove defeated Brownsboro in round one of pool play by the score of 4- 3. Barnes stuck out five batters in the game Gaughan, Barnes and Palmer all had a hit against Pleasant Grove. Against Atlanta in round two of pool play both teams tied in runs scored but the Bearettes were named the winner of the game as they had more base runners. Brownsboro stole seven bases in the game. Gaughan and Chelsy Quijas each stole two bases. In their final pool play game the Bearettes were defeated by Whitehouse 4-0. Kayla Winnett and Logan Gaughan each had a hit for the Bearettes. Brownsboro is scheduled to play on Friday against Robert E. Lee at 4:30pm in Brownsboro. On Tuesday the Bearettes are scheduled to play in Kaufman at 4:30pm. |
