Lake Palestine U.M.C.
by Barbara Cade

We enjoyed the large crowd at church on Sunday. Even more faces were back that we hadn't seen in awhile. One of those faces was Sue Johnson who came in from Dallas where she is helping take care of her husband, Charles. She reports that he is making a lot of progress although still weak. We continue to pray for him.

Prayers are also in order for Susie Owens who lost her brother this past weekend. He lived in San Antonio.

Joyce Martin is recovering from surgery on her nose. It's very difficult for her to be out right now, but we know she will have a speedy recovery.

John Riveire had some dental work done last week which kept him home for a couple of days. That had everyone worried because he doesn't usually miss a meeting.

Kaethe Griffin had some dental work done this week too, but was in church on Sunday.

We hear that Everett Kuykendall has to go to the hospital for some tests. We pray that these tests will lead to some treatment which will help him feel better.

Ken Cade's mother is now a resident of the Chandler Nursing Center.

On Monday, both Roy Different and Lynn Foust were in the hospital for surgery.

The movie and baked potato night which the youth sponsored last Saturday was a big success. They are trying to raise some money for a mission project this summer. Their current endeavor is to auction their time and talents to the highest bidder in the church. Even Rev. Prather is volunteering to do some work. He says he has a new chain saw which he's never used. Someone might want him to cut a little wood. The bidding will end this coming Sunday.

Bob and Carla Fisher attended a lay speaker's training during the weekend. Sarah Howard was kind enough to fill in for Carla at the organ on Sunday. Thank you, Sarah.

Also on Sunday, we were treated to a beautiful solo by Angela Martin.

After church, Angela distributed the Girl Scout cookies purchased in the church. She may still have some. If you placed an order and didn't get them yet, please see her.

We were very pleased to see the tinting on the sanctuary windows on Sunday. Everyone who has contributed, or will contribute, to this project is to be commended.

We hear that Lillian Stegall is home from Aruba. She hasn't been able to get out and about much yet though because she found out when she returned home that the hail from one of our storms had damaged five windows in her house, and I think the roof might need a little work too.

Bob Hitt and June are planning on leaving town. They will be going to Las Vegas to visit with relatives. Sounds like fun. They do want prayer, though, for his cousin in Alabama. This past week, they entertained June's brother and sister in-law from South Dakota.

At the Administrative Council meeting on Sunday, it was confirmed that one of the first acts to perform at the new amphitheater will be the Chuckwagon Gang. Also, it looks like some weddings are starting to be planned for down there by the lake, too.

The newsletter should be coming out next week. Please see Rebecca Prather for anything that should be going in there.

Finally, plan on being in church next Sunday. Rumor has it that there will be two ladies presenting some beutiful music to us.
