District Judge Tarrance files for re-election

Judge Carter Tarrance
Having served for twelve years as the only judge for the 392nd District Court, Judge Carter Tarrance has filed for re-election. In 1995 then-Governor George W. Bush appointed Tarrance to the newly created judicial district position.

"In those twelve years," Judge Tarrance said, "the Court has conducted its business efficiently in disposing of thousands of cases, fairly in hundreds of jury and bench trials, and firmly against those who commit crimes against the people of Henderson County."

"As judge, I've seen much sorrow; families torn by drugs, the mentally handicapped led astray, and children abused. I have also been touched by many joys; the lives changed, parents who give and guide, and foster children adopted by loving families."

"The people of Henderson County have elected me three times to be their judge," Tarrance continued. I've made decisions about their lives, their families, and their property. That trust is humbling to me."

Prior to becoming District Judge, Tarrance's career included being a Naval Intelligence Officer and local attorney for fifteen years. He has served as Athens City Judge and also served in various civic organizations, as well as active with the Boy Scouts of America for many years.

Since becoming District Judge, Tarrance was instrumental in helping to create Operation Clean Sweep. This program, with the cooperation of the Henderson County Commissioners Court and local municipalities, has probationers picking

up roadside litter. "My court has assigned probationers to pick up tons of litter

from county roads," Tarrance stated. "I'm very enthusiastic about this program and the growing support it receives."

"The 392nd court has no backlog of criminal cases, Tarrance stressed. "I'm very proud of that record, and look forward to continue serving the people of Henderson County as their judge."
