Theatre to present "The Odd Couple"

Edom Civic Theatre's first production of the 2008 season, "The Odd Couple" (female version), directed by Lois Arneson, Edom and Carole Davis, Edom, as Assistant Director, is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8, at 7 p.m. at the Edom Community Center. The three-act play is an updated version of the classic comedy written by Neil Simon.

"The Odd Couple" (male version) introduced American audiences to Felix Unger and Oscar Madison on Broadway, in films and on TV. This mismatched duo featured Felix the neat freak who moves in temporarily with Oscar the slob with hilarious results. In 1985, Neil Simon introduced the gender-switch rewrite and struck box office gold. In the Edom production, Florence and Olive find it just as difficult to be roommates as Felix and Oscar did. Add in their Trivial Pursuit playing girl friends, the intriguing Costazuela brothers from Spain, who live upstairs, and the mix and mix-ups continue the fun.

The cast of this production represents seasoned actors from past productions, as well as newcomers who bring an exciting array of talents and abilities to the company. Lahri Gentry, Martin's Mill, and Linda Parker, Chandler, play the main characters of Florence and Olive.

Their cadre of girl friends are Cathy Pavageau, Ben Wheeler, as Sylvie, Mary Ann Garrett, Chandler, as Mickey the Cop, Vickie Tindall, Van, as Renee, and Nancy Caro, Callender Lake, as Vera. Rob- ert Viana, and Jim Morgan, both of Callender Lake, are the romantically inclined but linguistically challenged Costazuela brothers from Barcelona.

Pat Butler is stage manager for this production. Terry McBurney, Callender Lake, ably handles lights and sound. We are indebted to Max Scott, Edom, for constructing the set as he has for so many past productions. Our special thanks to Polly Martin, Edom, who is in charge of reservations and ticket sales.

Reservations are now available (and recommended). Tickets at the door will be $7 for General Admission, $6 for Senior Citizens. For reservations and further information, please contact Polly Martin at 903-852-6803.
